"Apprenticeship schemes are brilliant – students learn best practices and gain a qualification, at the same time as developing their skills putting by theory in to practice in a real-life business environment. It’s the best of both worlds.
If I was to go back in time, I would have done an apprenticeship myself.
Within my team, I have two apprentices who are vital members of the Marketing department and its extremely rewarding to watch them grow through their apprenticeships and bring new ideas and processes into our company."
- Amy Newton, Chief Marketing Officer
As it is National Apprenticeship Week 2022 we wanted to highlight the brilliant work that our two apprentices contribute to the Podia team.
We consider ourselves a forward-thinking business with a defined hybrid working strategy and contemporary culture that focuses on employee experience so felt that we were good candidates for introducing motivated apprentices into the mix.
In 2021 we welcomed Matt and Hollie into our busy marketing team and feel very fortunate to have these incredibly bright individuals as part of the business.
We asked them what they thought about working for Podia as part of their apprenticeship programme.

Hollie Absolom
Position at Podia: Apprentice Marketing Assistant
Course: Level 3 in Digital Marketing
Why did you choose an apprenticeship?
I wanted to try something new and was eager to learn new skills. I already knew I enjoyed working with creative graphics, editing, and creating content so an apprenticeship in digital marketing seemed like a great new adventure that I would enjoy.
How do you think an apprenticeship compares with your previous employment?
My apprenticeship is great because I am always learning. Compared to previous jobs that had a tendency to become repetitive, with my apprenticeship I am always facing new challenges. Being able to actively learn whilst I work is all a huge bonus to me. I have designated work hours every week to complete coursework and study, also I am able to work and study from home so I still have a great work/life balance.
Would you recommend an apprenticeship?
Yes, I would recommend an apprenticeship to anyone who wants to engage in something new and learn new skills. It's great because you can learn new skills and then put them into practice in the workplace straight away.
What are your goals for the future?
My goals for the future are to continue learning new things and to finish my apprenticeship with a top grade. I hope to grow with Podia as the company itself grows and continue to learn from my colleagues.

Matt Tysoe
Position at Podia : Apprentice Data Analyst
Course: Level 4 in Data Analysis
What course are you studying?
My course covers the fundamentals of data analysis, statistics, visualisation, and data manipulation, but also goes into other subjects like machine learning and data architectures.
What value would you say you gained from undertaking an apprenticeship?
Apprenticeships are an incredible opportunity. I think the value that is gained from real work experience and a qualification alongside it, far outweigh the benefits of a university degree.
What has been your favourite task so far?
So far the Data Architectures and Cloud course has been the most interesting to me, as we worked on real-world examples, and made our own databases in just a few days.I want to continue learning and growing as a Data Analyst, I very much look forward to the future and learning more and more about my role.
